Lewis and Clark Memorial Tower
Planning is underway for the upcoming National Bicentennial commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Clark Expedition. The Lewis and Clark Memorial Tower is the newest project planned for completion by the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial 2003-2006. Construction has begun on a viewing tower to provide visitors an elevated view of the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The tower is a complementary attraction to the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center.
The Lewis
and Clark Memorial Tower will consist of a 150 foot tower of modern design
equipped with both an elevator and staircase rising to an open air viewing
deck to allow a panoramic view of the two river's confluence. The project
includes fountains gift shop and restroom facilities, and picnic areas with
direct access to the new Confluence Biketrail. The project has many supporters
and has been designated as the number one priority of the Lewis and Clark
Bicentennial Commission.

The
Lewis and Clark Memorial Tower will be a legacy project for Illinois. The
Tower will provide a view of the confluence of the two great rivers and is
the centerpiece of the Village of Hartford's Lewis and Clark Commerce Center,
a development for tourism and service related retail business to welcome visitors
to the region. The Village is looking for hotel
and restaurant development to serve visitors, residents and businesses
alike in time for the Bicentennial 2003-2006 on these 60 acres. For more information
